Broncos LB Jonathon Cooper Placed on Commissioner's Exempt List by NFL

The NFL placed Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper on the Commissioner's Exempt list on Sunday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cooper will be barred from practicing or attending games while he's on the list.

The Associated Press reported that Cooper was arrested in June on domestic violence charges.

Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reported that the Broncos should be able to manage Cooper's absence because they are "loaded" at the linebacker position and have "a lot of talented high-end depth with Que Robinson, Jonah Elliss and Dondrea Tillman."

A seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Cooper has spent his entire career with the Broncos. He was signed to a four-year, $60 million contract extension during the 2024 season, and the team restructured his deal last year to clear salary cap space.

Cooper played all 17 games in 2025 and recorded 50 total tackles, eight sacks and four passes defended.

In addition to Cooper, Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Terrion Arnold were also placed on the Commissioner's Exempt list. The Ringer's Tom Pelissero reported that no other players are expected to be added to the list on Sunday.
