Quinn Ewers Traded to Jaguars from Dolphins, Full Return Revealed and Updated QB Depth Charts

The Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired former University of Texas star Quinn Ewers as a depth option behind Trevor Lawrence.

The Jaguars acquired Ewers from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo first reported the trade.

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reported Ewers had support within the Dolphins coaching staff "but the front office was displeased by his training camp performance."

"There was sentiment in front office for a different No. 2," Jackson reported.

Ewers, selected in the seventh round of the 2025 draft, made four appearances and three starts for the Dolphins in his rookie season.

He saw most of his action last season when starting the Dolphins' final three games, completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 569 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions over that span.

Ewers made just one appearance for the Dolphins this preseason in an Aug. 14 matchup against the Washington Commanders in which he went 1-for-8 and later said he was playing through a pulled groin muscle.

That injury sidelined Ewers for the Dolphins' final two preseason games. Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley had yet to officially name a backup quarterback at the time of the Ewers trade.

The Dolphins will now be left with two inexperienced backup options barring another trade. Cam Miller spent last season with the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad, while Mark Gronowski is a 2026 undrafted free agent out of Iowa.

The Jaguars may need to move a signal caller out of their crowded room before the roster cutdown deadline hits Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.

With Nick Mullens set to back up Lawrence, the Jaguars could choose between Ewers, Carter Bradley and Joey Aguilar as a third-string option.

Bradley spent two seasons with the Raiders and San Francisco 49ers practice squads before he was signed to the Jaguars' practice squad last season. Aguilar signed with the Jaguars earlier this offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee.
