Lando Norris, McLaren F1 Agree to Contract Extension Through 2030 Season

Lando Norris has spent his entire F1 career with McLaren and that will continue for at least four more years.

McLaren announced on Saturday that Norris has signed an extension that will keep him part of the team through at least the 2030 F1 season.

ESPN's Laurence Edmondson noted the deal includes the option of a "multiyear" extension that could push it beyond 2030.

The move means McLaren will have Norris and Oscar Piastri under contract together for at least two more seasons. Piastri extended his deal in March 2025 to run through at least 2028, though it has been reported there is an opt-out for him since he was outside the top five in the standings at the summer break.

Norris most recently extended his contract with McLaren two years ago so that it would run through "at least" the end of the 2026 season. There had not been any indication either he or McLaren were looking to move on.

The 26-year-old won his first career F1 championship in 2025. He won seven races and finished with 423 points, two ahead of Max Verstappen in what was the closest points race since Lewis Hamilton beat Felipe Massa by one point in 2008.

After a slow start this season, Norris has come on strong recently with back-to-back wins in Hungary and the Netherlands. A.K. Antonelli and George Russell are the only other drivers with multiple wins so far in 2026.

Norris originally joined McLaren in 2017 as part of the driver development programme. He served as a reserve driver the following year before officially signing with the team in 2019.

Since making his F1 debut, Norris has won 13 races and made 48 podiums.

Norris will compete in his first race since his contract extension on September 6 for the Italian Grand Prix. The race will air at 9 a.m. ET on Apple TV.
