Drew Allar, Will Howard Struggle in QB3 Battle, Box Score Stats & Highlights from Steelers vs. Bills

Drew Allar and Will Howard were both under center for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the team's 28-27 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.

Howard played the first half of the game before Allar took the field for the second half, although neither player was able to truly stand out.

The Steelers' first possession of the game with Allar on the field was a successful one, as they opened the third quarter with a 68-yard drive that was capped off by a nine-yard rushing touchdown from running back Eli Heidenreich.

Pittsburgh wasn't able to move the chains as easily afterwards, as the team's next two drives ended with punts.

The Steelers advanced into Bills territory on Allar's fourth drive, but couldn't convert on fourth down with four yards to gain at Buffalo's 41-yard line.

After the Bills took a late one-point lead, Pittsburgh received the ball with an opportunity to move back in front. The Steelers recorded another turnover on downs after a fourth-down pass from Allar fell incomplete, though.

As for Howard, he finished with a pair of touchdown passes before getting picked off in the second quarter.

He put Pittsburgh on the board with a touchdown off a screen pass to rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard in the first quarter before connecting with tight end Lake McRee for another short score later in the quarter.

While the Steelers led 14-10 at halftime, it's worth noting that their offense wasn't able to consistently move down the field with Howard.

They finished with just 98 total yards in the first half.

As Aaron Rodgers remains the unquestioned starter in Pittsburgh, Allar and Howard continued their battle for positioning on the Steelers' depth chart.
