New Shedeur Sanders Rumors Reveal How Browns View QB After Battle with Deshaun Watson
Shedeur Sanders may have lost the quarterback battle against Deshaun Watson, but the Cleveland Browns still think highly of him.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Thursday that the Browns feel comfortable with Sanders if he has to step in at some point in this season.
"They feel like Shedeur Sanders acquitted himself well enough to where if they have to turn to him in Week 5, Week 8, whenever that is, they feel comfortable enough that he could provide a spark," Fowler said.
Fowler also noted that Watson came into the offseason as the favorite to win the battle, but Sanders closed the gap before the veteran was ultimately named the starter.
That's good news for Sanders, a young quarterback who is trying to make a name for himself in the NFL. The former fifth-rounder had a rough rookie year and won't get the chance to make up for it early in the year, but it sounds like he could still get some reps at some point this season.
If he can continue proving himself in practice and whenever his number is called in games, he could have a shot at becoming the starter in 2027.
