Leonard Williams, Seahawks Reportedly Agree to $90M Contract Extension After Witherspoon Deal

Having already handed out lucrative contract extensions to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon, the Seattle Seahawks aren't done yet.

According to ESPN and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, defensive tackle Leonard Williams and the Seahawks agreed to terms on a three-year, $90 million contract on Thursday. The deal includes $56 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler first reported the sides were nearing an agreement.

Talks between Williams and the Seahawks have been ongoing for some time. He confirmed at the start of training camp last month that the two sides have been engaged in "conversations" without suggesting any timeline for a deal to get done.

"There's been a few conversations," he said on July 28, "but nothing set in stone."

Williams' current three-year, $64.5 million contract was set to expire at the end of the 2026 season. He originally signed that deal in March 2024, five months after the Seahawks acquired him in a trade from the New York Giants.

The $30 million average annual salary on Williams' new deal matches the value of Vita Vea's one-year extension he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Aug. 19.

Williams is now one of six interior defensive linemen making at least $30 million per season. He joins a group that includes Vea, Jalen Carter, Quinnen Williams, Jeffery Simmons and Chris Jones.

In two full seasons playing in head coach Mike Macdonald's system, Williams has put together arguably the best stretch of his career. He has recorded 50 quarterback hits, 25 tackles for loss and 18 sacks in 33 games since the start of the 2024 campaign.

There's certainly risk on the Seahawks' part in giving a deal at this value to a player entering his age-32 season, but his performance suggests he can play at a high level for at least most of this contract.

The Seahawks allowed the fewest points in the NFL last season en route to winning the Super Bowl. Williams' presence in the middle of the defensive line helped unlock the entire unit, so it's only fitting he would be rewarded for his efforts with a new deal.
