Bijan Robinson Reveals Michael Penix Jr.'s Bold Claim amid Falcons QB's Injury Rehab
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. apparently gained some speed while he was rehabbing a torn ACL this offseason.
Star running back Bijan Robinson revealed a bold claim from Penix on Wednesday.
"He said this morning he'd beat me in a race," Robinson told reporters.
Penix has never been known for his speed or mobility, but if his claim of being faster than Robinson is true, he might have to start using his legs more often this season.
The first order of business for Penix is getting to 100 percent before the start of the season, and he made progress last week when he was cleared for 11-on-11. He'll now look to earn the starting job in Atlanta.
"The new part for Mike is just being in there in with a full offensive line, a full defensive line, but he's been in walkthrough huddles, he's been in 7-on-7, he's obviously gone through individuals," Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski said this week. "So, this is a good—now that Mike is cleared—it's good that he can start that process of getting back to 11-on-11."
His apparent newfound speed should help in the battle against Tua Tagovailoa.
