New 'Game Day Murders' Episode Covers Life and Death of NFL Star Sean Taylor on HBO Max

The 2007 death of former star NFL safety Sean Taylor will be covered during Monday's episode of Game Day Murders from Investigation Discovery.

It will be the latest edition of the six-episode Game Day Murders series, which was executive produced by NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal. Episodes air at 10 p.m. ET on ID and are available for streaming on HBO Max.

"I've been a true-crime guy my whole life, so working with ID on GAME DAY MURDERS was a natural fit," O'Neal said in a press release. "Sports create obsession—I've seen it firsthand. But when that obsession breaks the wrong way, it's something else entirely. People aren't ready for this show."

Monday's episode, which is titled Blindsided by Tragedy, will feature commentary from Taylor's former Washington teammate Santana Moss and explore the safety's death that occurred when he was shot during a home invasion.

Taylor was just 24 years old when he died.

In 2014, Curt Anderson of the Associated Press reported Eric Rivera, who was the man prosecutors said fired the shot during the burglary that killed Taylor, was sentenced to more than 57 years in state prison.

Taylor first became a household name as a star safety for the Miami Hurricanes. He was the 2023 Big East Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American who helped lead the program to back-to-back double-digit win seasons.

Washington selected him with the No. 5 pick of the 2004 NFL draft, and he quickly established himself as one of the best safeties in the league. He was known for his physical style of play that helped him patrol the middle of the field, but he was also a ballhawk with 12 interceptions in 55 games.

Taylor was a back-to-back Pro Bowler during his final two seasons in 2006 and 2007.

Washington retired his No. 21 during the 2021 campaign and also inducted him into the franchise's Ring of Fame.
