Nastasic Ruptures Achilles in Win over Werder Bremen
Sunday, August 16
Nastasic lasted just 15 minutes during the first match of the Bundesliga season before suffering the injury during the win over Bremen. According to PA Sport (for ESPN FC), the Serb underwent surgery, and he's set to at least miss the rest of 2015.
The club's official Twitter account sent out this message from all of his team-mates wishing him a speedy recovery:
Nastasic joined Schalke in January after a failed stint with Manchester City, with the Bundesliga club making the move official after just a couple of months. His performances improved toward the end of the campaign, and expectations were high for the 22-year-old entering 2015-16.
With Benedikt Howedes also sidelined for the foreseeable future, via ESPN FC, Schalke are suddenly without two of their top defenders. Bleacher Report's Clark Whitney can't believe their bad luck:
Roman Neustadter replaced the former Fiorentina star on Saturday, and the 27-year-old will likely slide into the starting XI until Nastasic returns to the pitch.
