New Giants Rumors Update Calvin Austin III's 'Serious' Knee Injury Ahead of 2026 NFL Season

The New York Giants got bad news regarding wide receiver Calvin Austin III on Wednesday.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Austin suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Tuesday's practice.

According toย Dan Dugganย of The Athletic, Austin was running a route in 1-on-1s when he went down with what appeared to be a right knee injury. Duggan noted that those around Austin "couldn't even look" as he was attended to.

The injury comes ahead of Austin's fifth NFL season, where he was looking to break through as a top option in New York. He spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers before signing with the Giants in March.

Last year, Austin recorded 372 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.

Austin was expected to be the starting slot receiver for the Giants this year, but his injury on Tuesday means New York will have to move fast to find a replacement. With Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton starting on the outside, the Giants could pivot to Braxton Berrios in the slot.

With Odell Beckham Jr. still looking for a permanent spot on the Giants, the veteran receiver could be in the mix to take over Austin's role.

Unfortunately for Austin, a significant injury only adds to what has been an injury-filled start to his career. Drafted in the fourth round in 2022, he missed all of his rookie season because of a lingering foot injury that he suffered in training camp.
