Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Marco Reus and Nolito Rumours

Christopher SimpsonAug 15, 2015

Barcelona could revisit their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus following the sale of Pedro.

According to Sport's Toni Juanmarti:

"

The money they have received from sales, more when Pedro moves to Manchester United, as looks likely, will allow them to bring in another top-class player.

Marco Reus is the most attractive option and he may return to the table. With little chance of winning titles with Borussia Dortmund, the winger has always been interested in a Barcelona switch.

Following the sales of key players such as Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich and the departure of coach Jurgen Klopp, Dortmund appear incapable of replicating their exploits from recent years, which saw them win back-to-back Bundesliga titles and reach the Champions League final.

Reus would therefore most likely find the idea of a new challenge and the opportunity for silverware with Barcelona an exciting one.

As strong as Barca are in forward areas, the German international would have much to offer.

RESTRICTIONS: DURING

Despite his playing time being restricted by ankle injuries, the 26-year-old scored 11 goals and created a further six in a disappointing season for BVB.

WhoScored.com illustrates the forward's creativity and provides a list of his impressive characteristics:

Bleacher Report's own Clark Whitney adds: "his ability to score both from distance and inside the penalty area makes him a truly rare asset."

Should Pedro depart as expected, Barca will be lacking cover for the star trio of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Reus would represent an outstanding replacement for Pedro, and his presence would allow Barcelona manager Luis Enrique to freely rest and rotate his stars in order to keep them fresh during their long campaigns on multiple fronts.

A late move for the German would be a sensational one; however, not being able to play until January would likely dissuade Reus from moving just yet.

There's a strong chance he will move in the next foreseeable future, but it won't be to the Camp Nou this summer.

Barcelona "Initiate Negotiations" with Nolito

A more likely immediate replacement for Pedro is Celta Vigo striker Nolito.

According to Spanish website Fichajes.net, (h/t Louis Sealey of Metro), "Barcelona appear resigned to losing Pedro to Manchester United and have already opened talks with the forward’s replacement."

The news follows the 28-year-old's admission that he would only depart Celta Vigo for the Catalan giants.

Per Joe Wright of Goal.com, he said: "I go to Barcelona or I stay at Celta. ... You can't say no to Barcelona. They're one of the best teams in the world."

The forward enjoyed some of the best form of his career last season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions and registering a phenomenal 14 assists. And clearly, he has a fan in the Guardian's Sid Lowe:

Nolito played over 100 times for Barcelona B as a youngster, so while he may not be a product of Barca's La Masia academy, he is clearly familiar with the club and its ethos.

Though Barca's transfer activity affords them plenty of money to spend if Pedro leaves, they may have to pay more than they'd like for the Spaniard with him being one of Celta's key players.

However, as cover for their front men, Nolito would be a very useful addition to the squad.
