Shedeur Sanders Reacts to Performance in Browns-Bills Preseason Game Amid Deshaun Watson QB1 Battle
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders says he's proud of the control he took in the huddle during Saturday's preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Sanders got his first preseason start Saturday amid his competition to be named QB1 over veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson.
"I would say to get the first completion," Sanders said when asked what he was proudest of in terms of his growth from his first preseason game. "I would say that was the biggest difference.
"Then it was just rolling. That's it. Operating within the huddle, and play clock and everything, just being on time... just being in control."
Sanders got his first completion of the day to Isaiah Bond while leading the Browns on a touchdown drive in Saturday's first quarter.
He was picked off in the second quarter before finishing the half having gone 9-for-11 with 74 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
"There's a lot there to like," coach Todd Monken said after the game about Sanders' play. "He plays with a certain amount of confidence. He has gotten a lot better of getting rid of the ball."
Monken also said he felt tight end Jermaine Terry "certainly could have caught" the throw that was intercepted on the Browns' third drive.
Monken has previously told reporters he plans to name a starter early next week.
The Browns coach said Saturday he would wait until watching tape Sunday to make any further decisions regarding whether Watson or Sanders will start the season as QB1.
