Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns struggled against Kyle Allen and the Buffalo Bills in preseason action, falling 31-7 as the duo combined for just 109 yards and two interceptions.

The Browns were 1.5-point underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, and lived up to their billing as such after both potential starters struggled to find their footing Saturday in Cleveland.

Sanders got the start and played through the first half before veteran Watson took over after halftime, a reversal of last week's sequencing. Former Oregon standout Dillon Gabriel then stepped in to close out the game in the fourth quarter.

After Buffalo opened the game with a score, the Browns responded with an 11-play drive that ended with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Sanders to Luke Floriea to even the score at seven.

After three straight punts, Sanders threw a pass behind his intended receiver that was picked off by Damar Hamlin. The Bills added another score before the end of the half to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.

Watson took over for the Browns in a scoreless third quarter for the team, struggling out of the gate, gaining negative-one yard on three plays before punting on the ensuing possession. The vet then threw an interception under pressure with just over three minutes remaining in the frame that set up the Bills' third touchdown of the game.

Gabriel took over late in the fourth quarter after Watson and the Browns turned the ball over on downs as the Bills put the finishing touches on a dominant win.

Last season, the Browns finished last in the AFC North at 5-12 after playing both Sanders, who appeared in eight games and threw for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns, and Gabriel, who threw for 937 yards and seven touchdowns over 10 games, at quarterback.

This season, with Watson returning from injury, the competition is on once again, but it has shifted between the 10th-year veteran and the second-year player.

In the Browns' preseason opener, they dropped a 34-10 loss to the Chicago Bears as they began their experimental run while determining who will be under center come Week 1.

Head coach Todd Monken has yet to name a starter, while last week, Watson got the nod in the first half, completing 11-of-15 passes for 126 yards with one sack, while Sanders took over after halftime.

The former Colorado standout threw for 79 yards on 6-of-11 passing with one interception before Gabriel took over.

Cleveland will close out its preseason Thursday against the New England Patriots at home.
