The Los Angeles Dodgers' mood after a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday was tempered by the news that Andy Pages suffered a fracture on the back of his left hand after being hit by a pitch.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed the news of Pages' injury after the game, but the expectation is he won't miss the rest of the season.

"It's not season-ending because obviously things like that it's four or five weeks," Roberts told reporters. "I would expect him back, knowing him, on the earlier side. There's still time in the season for him to be back. I feel for him because he's having such a good year."

Pages was hit on the back of his hand by a pitch clocked at 100 mph from Pirates starter Bubba Chandler in the bottom of the third inning.

Roberts did note there's a possibility Pages could require surgery, but it's not believed that would change his return timeline.

Pages actually stayed in the game through the fourth inning before Enrique Hernรกndez replaced him in center to start the top of the fifth.

A four-week timeline would have Pages back for the final week of the regular season. The Dodgers' nine-game lead in the NL West gives them the ability to avoid feeling like they have to rush him back, but they could look to get him some at-bats in games before the playoffs if he is healthy.

The regular season ends on Sept. 27. If the Dodgers finish as one of the top two seeds in the NL, they wouldn't play until Oct. 3 when the Division Series begins.

Los Angeles currently has a three game lead over the Atlanta Braves for the No. 2 seed in the National League. The Dodgers are only two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the best record in MLB, but Milwaukee holds the tiebreaker thanks to a 4-3 head-to-head record.

The news about Pages comes as the Dodgers are uncertain about Dalton Rushing's status for the rest of the regular season due to a partially torn UCL.

Rushing didย sayย this week he is progressing to be able to throw with the hope he can catch again at some point in September.

Pages' injury also interrupts what has been a terrific season for him. The 25-year-old is hitting .272/.338/.458 with 21 homers in 128 games. He is also an elite defensive centerfielder with 17 defensive runs saved,ย second-mostย at the position behind Ceddanne Rafaela (19).

Hernรกndez and Tommy Edman will likely receive the bulk of the playing time in center until Pages can return.
