Floyd Mayweather Net Worth: Analyzing Money's Status Heading into Berto Fight

Tim DanielsSep 12, 2015

Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. is set for another monster payday as he steps into the ring with Andre Berto on Saturday night. He won't collect as much as he did for the hyped encounter with Manny Pacquiao, but it's still a lot of money for 36 minutes or less of action.

Mayweather provided a significant boost to his net worth with the Pac-Man bout. Chris Isidore of CNN Money reported an overall revenue for the fight of $500 million, with the undefeated American taking 60 percent of the estimated $250 million purse for the boxers, giving him at least $150 million.

Exactly where that leaves his overall portfolio value isn't clear. The Richest projects Mayweather is worth $650 million. Celebrity Net Worth is a little more conservative, with a $400 million estimate. Either way, it's safe to say he's doing just fine.

He'll add another sizable sum to that number against Berto. Dan Rafael of ESPN noted that the 38-year-old star will take home a minimum of $32 million regardless of the result. The final number likely won't be known until all the revenue is calculated afterward.

Mayweather and his camp are selling this as his final fight. It's hard to believe, considering he's such a heavy favorite in a bout that received such a negative reaction. Ending his career on a low note, even if he wins, would be a weird way to go out given his otherwise strong resume.

Mayweather stated that the amount of cash he could be leaving on the table won't be a factor, per Greg Beacham of the Associated Press.

"They say they'll offer me a lot of money," he said. "I have a lot of money. I'm OK. ... It's the end of my (Showtime) deal. I'm an old man now. I'm 38."

Quite simply, when you consider all of the factors in play, led by the lack of a high-profile opponent and the earning potential still available, it would be a surprise if this truly marked the end of Mayweather's career. It certainly wouldn't be going out with the proverbial bang.

That said, if Mayweather did decide it's the time to hang up his gloves for good, he's clearly in a strong financial situation to do so. That's true whether his net worth is $650 million, $400 million or somewhere in between those projections.

They call him "Money" for a reason.
