Cowboys Won't 'Take S--t From Anybody' After Fight-Filled Saints Practice, HC Schottenheimer Says
After multiple skirmishes during Tuesday's joint practice with the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer isn't looking to make them a habit for his team, but he also appreciates the fiery mentality from his players.
"We're going to play on the edge and we're not going to take s--t from anybody," Schottenheimer said after Tuesday's session, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com.
However, the second-year head coach went on to admit, "But at the same time, I don't think [the Saints] were the only ones stirring up the s--t. I think we might've been stirring it up as well. It was a sloppy practice all and all and it's got to be better."
Both teams had trouble focusing during the early part of practice as tensions boiled over multiple times. At one point, Saints undrafted rookie receiver Brock Rechsteiner, son of legendary wrestler WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, body-slammed Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson to the turf.
Schottenheimer said that he and Saints head coach Kellen Moore discussed whether to call practice amid the repeated melees.
"We kind of had agreed that if a couple of other things happened, we would cancel it, but they worked through it," Schottenheimer said. "Again, they settled into it, but again, there's a discipline element to playing this football game, and unfortunately we didn't handle that very well today."
The Cowboys and Saints won't meet on the field until their final preseason game on Aug. 28, but it's safe to say that the two teams will be motivated to get the best of one another after their contentious practice.
