Going up against his former team in a joint practice this week, New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown has opened up about the status of his relationship with Jalen Hurts.

Speaking to reporters after Wednesday's practice between the Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, Brown simply said "no" when asked if he has spoken to Hurts since he was traded.

Brown did go on to say that he is trying to "keep everything positive" about his new situation with the reigning AFC champs.

There was a lot of attention paid to the dynamic between Brown and Hurts throughout the 2025 season when it appeared they weren't always on the same page.

On the heels of a 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 5, Hurts and Saquon Barkley confirmed they spoke with Brown about the offensive struggles but all three men downplayed any issues existed between the star quarterback and receiver.

In the aftermath of the trade that sent Brown to New England, he did reveal on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast with Maria Taylor his relationship with Hurts had changed because they were "not as close as we once were" even though there was "no bad blood" between the them.

The Eagles received two draft picks from New England, including a 2028 first-rounder, in exchange for Brown to end his four-year tenure in Philadelphia.

Even though Brown's time in the City of Brotherly Love ended sooner than expected, it was a rousing success for everyone involved. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in each of his four seasons in Philadelphia.

The Eagles made the playoffs every year, reaching the Super Bowl twice and defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.

Brown could get his first chance to go up against his former team on Saturday when the Patriots host the Eagles at Gillette Stadium in a preseason contest. The two teams don't play in the regular season.
