Medvedev, who was born in Moscow and lives in Monaco, recently told the Cincinnati Enquirer's Shelby Dermer he decided to become a Reds fan after attending his first baseball game in Ohio following his loss at the 2025 Cincinnati Open.
"I was like, 'why haven't I gone before?'" Medvedev told Dermer. "I started watching baseball more than any other sport, except tennis. Since they were the first team I saw live, why not be a Cincinnati Reds fan?"
Medvedev also told Dermer he now knows "pretty much every player and every stat" regarding the Reds.
"When I'm a fan of something, I like to really be into it. That's my team," Medvedev told Dermer.
Medvedev, ranked as the world's No. 7 player by ATP, was again in town for the Cincinnati Open but did not get to see much more tennis action after throwing out Monday's first pitch.
He was eliminated Tuesday from the third round of the 2026 tournament after a 6-7, 7-6, 6-1 loss to American wild card Brandon Nakashima.
