'Overheated' Kelsey Mitchell Forced to Locker Room in Fever's Win vs. Tempo, Reveals Stephanie White

Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell scored 29 points in the first three quarters of her team's 101-95 road win over the Toronto Tempo on Tuesday evening, but she then went back to the locker room and did not play the fourth.

After the game, head coach Stephanie White told reporters that Mitchell, whose 24.3 points per game rank second in the league, was "overheated," leading to the departure.

"This is two games in a row where we played in really, really hot environments," White said, per ESPN's Michael Voepel. "All indications are right now that she was just overheated."

Near the end of the third quarter, Mitchell scored eight points in a 50-second span to cap a phenomenal performance.

She subbed out with 24 seconds left in the third quarter and did not return.

The Fever then finished off the win for five straight victories. After the game, ESPN's Holly Rowe asked Fever star Caitlin Clark what she knew about Mitchell's status (24-second mark).

"Well, maybe if Canada had air conditioning, Holly, that would be helpful," Clark said as she smiled. "It's a million degrees in here. But hopefully she'll be OK, but we certainly miss her."

The situation was concerning, especially after Mitchell suffered from rhabdomyolysis (a serious and potentially life-threatening health condition caused by muscle breakdown) during Game 5 of the Fever's semifinal series against the Las Vegas Aces last summer. Thankfully, it doesn't appear Mitchell had that same issue last night.

"Not that I'm aware of, but I'm not sure. All indications are right now she was just overheated," White said when asked if there was any indication Mitchell suffered from the condition against Toronto, per Voepel.

Hopefully Mitchell is good to go ASAP after a potentially scary situation on Tuesday. In the short-term, Indiana has a jam-packed schedule up ahead with three games in four days beginning Thursday at the Dallas Wings.
