MLB Umpire Jordan Baker Hit in Face Mask by Foul Ball, In Concussion Protocol After Leaving Game
An MLB umpire is in concussion protocol after a baseball hit his face mask on Tuesday during a matchup between the San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Guardians.
San Francisco's Andrew Knizner hit a foul ball that hit home plate umpire Jordan Baker in his mask, and he was forced to exit the game. According to the Associated Press, MLB said in a statement that Baker was being evaluated for a concussion.
Rob Drake had to move from third base to home plate, which led to a 12-minute delay in the game. Steven Jaschinski moved from second to third and Stu Scheurwater remained at third as the game was played with a three-man crew the rest of the night.
According to the Associated Press, MLB will determine Baker's status overnight and decide whether to bring in another umpire for the rest of the series. The Guardians won Tuesday's game, and the two teams will play on Wednesday and Thursday.
