Tempo Reveal New Mascots in Trending Video Amid Inaugural WNBA Season
The Toronto Tempo officially have more mascots than years in existence.
The WNBA expansion franchise, which is playing its first season in 2026, revealed its two mascots Tuesday. Dez the snapping turtle and Dot the arctic hare will be the team's mascots and made their debut during the team's contest against the Indiana Fever:

"From the beginning, we wanted our mascots to feel distinctly Tempoārooted in who we are as a Canadian team," Tempo chief marketing officer Whitney Bell said in a statement.Ā
"Dez and Dot have completely different personalities, but they're better together. One knows when to slow things down, the other knows when to turn the energy all the way up. That balance felt like such a natural expression of Tempo, and we can't wait for our fans to get to know them."
The turtle and the hare theme was clear as soon as the mascots were revealed, and ideally for the team it will follow suit and dictate the Tempo on the floor.
Unfortunately for the Tempo, things have not gone particularly well on the court during the franchise's first season.
They entered Tuesday's contest losers of 10 straight games and well outside the WNBA playoff picture at 10-23. There has been reason for optimism, such as Marina Mabrey's offensive output, but there hasn't been enough depth to compete against the league's best teams.
It also didn't help that Brittney Sykes missed so much time with injury, although she returned Tuesday for the first time since June 16.
Her return just so happened to come on the same night that the team's new mascots were revealed.
