David Montgomery Hints at Expanded Dual-Threat Role in Texans' Offense amid Fantasy Football Buzz

After being traded from the Detroit Lions to the Houston Texans, veteran running back David Montgomery will get to show off a new dimension to his game that should benefit fantasy football managers.

"[Texans offensive coordinator] Nick Caley let me know that I will be able to showcase [my dual-threat ability] because I know I can do it," Montgomery told ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime. "So, I'm excited."

Bien-Aime illustrated a moment in Texans practice where quarterback C.J. Stroud floated a pass to Montgomery down the sideline, and the 29-year-old speedster "burst untouched into the end zone for an 80-yard touchdown." Montgomery has recorded at least 300 receiving yards in four out of his seven NFL seasons.

While he split carries with star running back Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit, Montgomery "is expected to be the star of the show" in Houston over second-year ball-carrier Woody Marks, per Bien-Aime.

"I can do everything," Montgomery said. "I try not to categorize myself."

Montgomery's dual-threat skills should make him an attractive option for fantasy football managers in PPR leagues. While he's likely not a first-round target in fantasy drafts, he should be a high-end RB2 who could provide immense value as a later-round pick.
