Mahomes' 3,587 passing yards and 22 touchdowns were his fewest as a starter in the NFL, but he was sidelined for Kansas City's final three games after suffering a torn ACL.
Setting the injury aside, 2025 was a relative down year by Mahomes' high standards, and his drop in the Top 100 is a sign of how opinions around his value are evolving slightly.
"Mahomes struggled even before the injury last year ā held the ball too long and forced throws when it wasn't necessary," one defensive coach said to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. "Still has a tendency to chase the big play instead of keeping the offense on schedule."
Mahomes' supporting cast didn't provide a ton of help. The Chiefs finished 25th in rushing, and an aging Travis Kelce was their leading receiver with 851 yards. Hollywood Brown was next on the list with 587 yards.
The Chiefs didn't make any radical changes to their passing game. They're counting on continued development from Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice.
The arrival of Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III should, however, take some pressure off Mahomes. Kansas City will have a rushing attack opposing defenses need to game-plan for.
Should Mahomes' raw passing totals come in below his career averages again, that may say less about his performance and more about how the Chiefs struck a better balance to where he doesn't need to pull off a superhero act in every game.
Taylor was third in the league in rushing yards (1,585) and led the way with 18 scores on the ground. Equally as impressive, he averaged 4.9 yards per carry, his most since 2021.
The 27-year-old's performance did begin to tail off as the season went on. During the Colts' seven-game losing streak to close out the year, he averaged 63.7 yards per contest and 3.3 yards per carry.
The sorry state of Indy's passing game by the end didn't do Taylor any favors. Teams had the luxury of stacking the box because Riley Leonard and Philip Rivers weren't scaring anybody through the air.
This summer, Taylor signed a two-year, $44 million extension that reaffirmed his importance to the team.
The three-time Pro Bowler has logged a full season just twice since getting drafted in 2020. Dialing back his touches may not be a bad idea. With Daniel Jones coming off an Achilles injury, though, he'll likely have to shoulder a sizable workload.
