Ketel Marte Placed on Restricted List, Latest Rumors on Diamondbacks Star

Scott PolacekAug 17, 2026

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Monday they placed second baseman Ketel Marte on the restricted list ahead of their contest against the Boston Red Sox.

Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reported "Marte did not show up here at Fenway Park tonight and that is why he was placed on the restricted list."

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic added more details to the situation, noting Marte is not injured and the team planned on starting him for Monday's contest. With that as the plan, the lineup was not finalized until just minutes before the game was slated to start:

Marte is slashing .249/.314/.446 with 21 home runs, 67 RBI and four stolen bases in 118 games this season.

He was a back-to-back All-Star in 2024 and 2025 and also took home a Silver Slugger award in each of those seasons.

The 32-year-old was also a major part of the 2023 Diamondbacks team that reached the World Series. He took home the National League Championship Series MVP and slashed .329/.380/.534 with two home runs and 11 RBI during the postseason.

As for the 2026 Diamondbacks, they entered Monday's contest one game behind the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres for a National League wild-card spot.

Ildemaro Vargas started at second base.
