New Giants Rumors on Najee Harris' Visit Amid Cam Skattebo's Leg Injury Recovery

The New York Giants are bringing free-agent running back Najee Harris in for a visit Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Cam Skattebo suited up in New York's preseason opener, but signing Harris would give the team more cover in the backfield as the second-year running back is coming off a major ankle injury.

Granted, Harris has his own injury questions. He was limited to three games with the Los Angeles Chargers after suffering a torn Achilles tendon.

Signing only a one-year contract with L.A. last offseason also reflected a level of uncertainty about his overall value even before he got hurt.

Harris ran for 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers but averaged just 3.9 yards per carry. The mileage was starting to add up as well for a player who had 460 carries in his final two college seasons and then 1,097 more to open his pro career.

Depending on where he's at post-Achilles tear, Harris could at least be a dependable secondary option on the ground for New York. In addition, coach John Harbaugh is very familiar with him thanks to facing him twice a year while on the Baltimore Ravens' sideline.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. is behind Skattebo in the Giants' likely depth chart. He has been a solid contributor, running for 1,579 yards and seven touchdowns in 32 games with the team.

The quality at the position begins to dip after that. Devin Singletary's performance has declined, and Eric Gray had six fumbles on 47 combined touches between 2023 and 2024.

As a one-year flier, Harris may not be a bad investment.
