Breece Hall Injured, Latest on Jets RB's Diagnosis and Aaron Glenn's Reaction

Doric SamAug 17, 2026

The New York Jets suffered an injury scare to one of their top offensive players on Monday, but head coach Aaron Glenn doesn't sound too concerned.

Glenn told reporters that star running back Breece Hall suffered a strained groin during Monday's practice. However, he added, "I don't think it was a big deal," and said Hall would go for imaging to evaluate the injury further.

If Hall is forced to miss time, backup running back Braelon Allen will take over as the starter in the interim. The 22-year-oldย told reportersย that his "stomach dropped a little bit" when Hall went down in Monday's practice, but he's also hopeful that it's not serious.

Allen was limited to four games in 2025 due to a season-ending knee injury, but he impressed in Friday's preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a 31-yard touchdown run.

Per ESPN'sย Rich Cimini, Hall was running after catching a pass when he went down with the injury without being contacted. Heย enteredย the medical tent and had his upper right leg area examined.

Hall played briefly in Friday's preseason game and ran for 16 yards on four carries. He appeared to have a path to a walk-in touchdown before losing his footing, and he complained on social media about the turf at MetLife Stadium afterward.

The Jets signed Hall to a three-year, $45.75 million contract extension this offseason, which made him the third-highest-paid running back in the league at the time. Perย Over the Cap, he has since dropped to No. 8 after other ball-carriers around the league cashed in with big-money extensions this summer.

Hall's rookie season in 2022 ended after seven games when he tore his ACL, but he's been durable since then, with just two missed games over the last three years. He achieved his first 1,000-yard season in 2025, and it was expected that he would continue on an upward trajectory in Glenn's second year as head coach.

If Allen can stay healthy and productive, he could allow the Jets to be cautious with their approach to Hall's recovery.
