Jesse Minter Says 'Diehard Ravens Fans' Invited Him to Their Weddings, How Did New HC Respond?

Jesse Minter knew his offseason was going to be a little busier after becoming the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. He may not have foreseen how many different requests for his time he'd receive.

Minter told The Athletic's Mike Jones he received random wedding invitations and RSVPs to "different events of people that I've never met that I have no idea who they are" since arriving in Baltimore.

"They're just diehard Ravens fans, so you know, it's kind of funny," he said. "I'll send a note just to like, congratulate them, but obviously, I'm not going to show up at some random person's wedding. So, just those types of things. You don't realize the limelight and what it's going to be like until you're definitely in the seat."

Minter went on to tell Jones that Jim Harbaugh, whom he worked under at Michigan and with the Los Angeles Chargers, helped prepare him for the eventual step up to the top job. Harbaugh advised him that he was ready to be a head coach and that he needed to "go be yourself" to succeed in the role.

"And so, I think that's a really interesting thing because I think when you get the job, the first thing you think is you almost got to try to please a lot of people, but at the end of the day, you've got to be true to yourself, what you believe in, share your messaging with the team of why you believe in certain things, and I think when you build that connection and explain things and talk it out, then they really understand and buy into it," Minter said.

The 43-year-old is in the honeymoon phase right now. Ravens fans watched the franchise hit a wall under his predecessor, John Harbaugh, so the hope is that a coaching change will spark a run to the Super Bowl.

The goodwill toward Minter will last for as long as he's delivering results. Should Baltimore have an underwhelming season in Year 1, the wedding invites next summer could be scarce.
