Taurasi was drafted first overall by the Mercury in 2004 after her tremendous collegiate career at UConn, and she instantly made an impact, winning Rookie of the Year.
From then on, she established herself as one of the best players in the league year in and year out.
She was named WNBA MVP in 2009 and led the Mercury to championships in 2007, 2009 and 2014, winning Finals MVP twice. Taurasi retired in 2024 having been named an All-Star 11 times and finishing atop the WNBA's all-time scoring list, where she still leads by nearly 2,000 points.
Having had her number retired, the next stop for Taurasi is the Hall of Fame, where she'll be eligible in 2027 and will almost certainly be a first-ballot inductee.
