Jeremiyah Love Ankle Injury Update and Timeline to Return to Cardinals Revealed in New NFL Rumors

Timothy RappAug 16, 2026

The preseason is likely over for Jeremiyah Love.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Arizona Cardinals rookie running back has reportedly suffered a high ankle sprain that "makes it unlikely that Love plays again this preseason, with the team hoping he can return for the Sept. 13 regular-season opener vs. the Los Angeles Chargers."

Arizona head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters on Saturday that Love would miss at least the next week.

"He was in great spirits, even Friday," he said. "But we'll keep him out this week as we let it heal. So, a little bit more sore than we were anticipating. ... This week and then we'll kind of go from there and reevaluate. Honestly, all the focus is on Aug. 15th, Saturday. Here we are in our Tempe block (of practice). We'll kind of reevaluate going into next week. But he will be out this week."

Injuries have become a concern for Arizona's running backs room, with James Conner yet to participate in full team drills and Trey Benson sidelined with knee issues. Tyler Allgeier, expected to split time in the backfield with Love this season, is currently the last man standing.

Love, 21, did not appear in the Hall of Fame Game but was in action for Arizona's second preseason game, a 27-14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday. The rookie rushed 11 times for 58 yards and caught three passes for 14 yards.

It was also the preseason debut for the top overall pick, Las Vegas' Fernando Mendoza, who finished 10-of-16 for 97 yards and a touchdown.
