Tarik Skubal's Final Box-Score Stats, Highlights from 3rd Start for Dodgers After Tigers Trade

In his third start since being traded from the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal once again didn't get a win.

Skubal was pulled from Sunday's start against the Milwaukee Brewers after pitching six innings and surrendering seven hits and two runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts. He threw a career-high 109 pitches, 77 for strikes, and he gave up two walks.

The back-to-back reigning AL Cy Young Award winner received a rude welcome to the mound when Brewers leadoff hitter William Contreras hit a single on the second pitch he saw. Skubal surrendered another hit on the first pitch he threw to Jake Bauers, but he managed to escape the first inning without surrendering a run.

Skubal opened the second inning by striking out Gary Sanchez, but he later found himself in trouble after he walked the bases loaded after an eight-pitch at-bat by Contreras. Milwaukee scored its first run when Tommy Edman committed an error by missing a throw from Mookie Betts while trying to get a force-out at second base. In all, Skubal needed 33 pitches to get through the second inning.

After getting through the third and fourth innings with ease, Skubal received some run support when Max Muncy tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. However, the lefty hurler gave the lead right back in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Bauers, his third hit of the game. Skubal appeared to show some frustration when he left the mound at the end of the inning.

Despite sitting at 95 pitches through five innings, Skubal came out for the sixth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning by striking out the side.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts sent out Edgardo Henriquez to start the seventh inning, ending Skubal's day. Alex Vesia also took the mound in the seventh, but the Brewers promptly extended their lead to 4-1. He has yet to record a win in a Dodgers uniform.

The Dodgers acquired Skubal in hopes of securing a third straight World Series title, but he has only shown glimpses of the form that made him the best pitcher in the majors. He will have a layoff before returning to the mound next Sunday, Aug. 23, in a scheduled start against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
