Aaron Donald Works Out for Rams amid Latest Sean McVay Comments on Returning to NFL

Aaron Donald has had his second tryout with the Los Angeles Rams.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the legendary defensive tackle appeared on the NFL's transaction wire as having worked out with the Rams.

The workout comes after Rams head coach Sean McVay said Saturday that the team doesn't plan to put an "invisible deadline" on Donald's decision to come out of retirement.

"If Aaron does decide he wants to do it, I've been very open that we want to try to be able to explore that opportunity," McVay told reporters after the team's preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. "But I think he has earned the right to be able to say he knows himself in terms of, am I able to stack back-to-back days? Am I able to do some of the different things, and some of the benchmarks that he's set out for himself?

"What I don't want to sit here and do is put a timeline on it, and then something comes up where I've got to push it back. What I have said with him, we have some loose things where we've identified dates that we'd like to be able to hit, but what I don't want to have is any sort of unnecessary pressure on him if there's some unforeseen circumstances."

The deadline for teams to cut their rosters down to 53 players is on Aug. 30, but that isn't necessarily the deadline for him to join the Rams.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted last month that Donald's return could come at some point in the regular season.

Donald had his first workout with his former team earlier this month.

"Best tryout we've ever had," McVay joked. "I think he could make the team."

Should Donald return, he'd join a defensive line highlighted by Myles Garrett, arguably the most impactful player on that side of the ball. Even though Donald is several years removed from his last NFL game, he could surely be a difference-maker on a team with championship hopes.

While Donald hasn't given too much insight into his thought process, completing another workout seems to indicate that he's leaning towards returning to the gridiron.
