Guardians Achieve Historic MLB Milestone, Check Out Highlights and Updated AL Playoff Standings

The Cleveland Guardians were surely focused on the crowded American League wild-card race during Saturday's 6-1 victory over the San Diego Padres, but they also made some history in the process.

Tom Withers of the Associated Press noted Cleveland reached 10,000 wins in its history, making it just the third American League franchise to do so. It joined the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in the 10,000-win club.

Here is where the Guardians stand in the American League standings after making that history:

Central
TeamGB
White Sox--
Tigers4.5
Twins5
Guardians5
Royals15
Wild Card
TeamGB
Yankees-7.5
Red Sox-5.5
Rangers--
Blue Jays0.5
Orioles0.5
Tigers0.5
Twins1
Guardians1
Mariners3

Cleveland needed the historic win, as it is just 3-8 in its last 11 games. While it is still within striking distance in the AL Central, it will need to leapfrog three different teams to claim a division crown.

There are even more teams involved in the wild-card race, although the Guardians are at least much closer in that department.

Pitching was the story in their latest win, as starter Joey Cantillo allowed just one earned run and one hit while striking out seven in six innings of work. From there, the bullpen combination of Colin Holderman, Hunter Gaddis and Erik Sabrowski didn't allow a single hit while finishing the final three innings.

Offensively, Steven Kwan, Josรฉ Ramirez, Jo Adell and Patrick Bailey each drove in a run.

The Guardians and Padres will finish their three-game series Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET.
