Mock Draft Strategy

The MVP of the NFL may be awarded to the best quarterback in the league, but the most valuable player a fantasy manager can grab early on in PPR leagues is a running back or wide receiver.

They have the greatest potential to earn points for managers, as they are awarded for each reception, rush, and score. Top stars at those positions in pass-heavy offenses will naturally generate great interest at the top of the draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals have been a pass-happy offense, especially when Joe Burrow is under center. Hence, Chase is a top option at the No. 1 pick, and running back Brown, adept at catching passes out of the backfield, is another top-20 pick.

The Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions also possess electric passing offenses, so Nacua, Gibbs, and St. Brown are all elite options early on.

Dual-threat running backs who can break off big runs but also contribute in the passing game are as good as a wide receiver, if not better.

There will be a natural tendency to chase star QBs like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, both of whom can benefit fantasy teams with their ability to throw and run, but selecting them earlier than the fifth or sixth round, when there are still high-quality players available to bolster roster depth, can undermine a manager's attempt at a league championship.

The tight end position is interesting because Bowers in Las Vegas and McBride in Arizona play and accumulate stats like wide receivers. They are game-changers at their positions and worthy of managers' trust. Still, anything beyond the late second round or early third for either could be considered a reach.
