Joshua Baez Reacts to Making MLB History with HRs in 3 Straight At-Bats in Cardinals Debut

St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Joshua Báez called his MLB debut "unreal" as he made history Saturday at Wrigley Field.

Báez homered in his first three at-bats, becoming the first player to ever pull off the feat.

"It's just unreal," he said, per ESPN.com. "To not only get a hit but three home runs? It's crazy."

According to MLB.com's Zach Sweet, Báez had around 30 family members in the stands to watch his first MLB game. The group included his mother, Yris.

"Since he started playing when he was 12 years old, seeing all the work that he made, all the progress and everything, this is something that God gave me," she said through Cardinals team interpreter Kleininger Teran. "That is a really satisfying feeling that I have right now."

Prior to his call-up, Báez showed off his impressive power in the minors. He had 20 home runs between High-A and Double-A in 2025 and leads Triple-A with 34 dingers in 103 appearances this season.

MLB.com ranks Báez, a second-round pick in the 2021 draft, as the No. 3 prospect in the Cardinals' farm system and the No. 59 player overall.

It's safe to assume the 23-year-old won't homer — let alone get three — in every single game moving forward. No matter what happens from here on out, he'll always have Saturday's record-breaking performance to remember.
