Jaxson Dart Takes Huge Hit in Preseason Opener as Giants Fans React to Video with Injury Concern

New York Giants second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart was on the receiving end of a massive hit during Saturday's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

In the waning seconds of the first quarter, Dart was blasted by Vikings safety Jay Ward, who was credited with a sack:

Dart was temporarily removed from the game and checked inside the blue injury tent, but he returned shortly thereafter and threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields:

Per ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Dart was evaluated for a concussion after the hit by Ward, but the fact that he re-entered the game quickly means he was cleared.

Dart played two series in the game with the first ending in a punt and the second resulting in a touchdown.

While Dart was shortly out of the game, backup quarterback Jameis Winston and running back Devin Singletary hooked up for a 40-yard gain, which set up Dart's 15-yard scoring strike to Fields.

Selected 25th overall in the 2025 NFL draft, Dart impressed as a rookie last season, going 4-8 as a starter and completing 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions, while also rushing for 487 yards and nine scores.

The main concern when it comes to Dart is his lack of regard for his own safety, as he often took big hits last season, primarily on scrambles and designed runs.

That means Dart could have an increased risk of injury compared to other quarterbacks, but his dual-threat nature is also what sets him apart from most of his peers.

In his first year as head coach of the Giants, John Harbaugh will need Dart on the field in order to have success, and the team was fortunate that he appeared to avoid any kind of significant injury on Saturday.
