Tomsula Comments on Davis' Status Ahead of Week 6

"It wasn't where it needed to be on Friday, but looks like he's on path to play Sunday," head coach Jim Tomsula said at his Monday press conference.
Davis' Return Important for Kaepernick
One of the biggest questions surrounding the 49ers was how they'd cope with the numerous departures over the offseason. This graphic from Fox Sports Live properly illustrates all of the talent San Francisco had to replace:

That's what makes Davis even more important to the team. He's coming off a dreadful campaign—26 receptions, 245 yards, two touchdowns—but he has at least been around the franchise for years, providing some continuity to the offense.
The rapport Davis and quarterback Colin Kaepernick have built is invaluable following so much roster turnover. In a year in which so much is expected of Kaepernick, he needs to have guys like Davis in whom he trusts and with whom he has a strong understanding.
The Niners have had to rely more on Blake Bell and Garrett Celek at tight end, so it's good news for Kaepernick and the 49ers' offense that Davis is ready to play.
