John Harbaugh Responds to Criticism of Viral Video from 1st Giants Team Meeting

John Harbaugh told ESPN's Jordan Raanan the clip of his first speech to the New York Giants lacked context when it went viral on social media.

The Giants shared a video earlier this offseason in which Harbaugh told players he was "nervous like before a game" to be "standing up in here in front of the New York Giants."

Harbaugh told Raanan that clip was "the opening sentence of a whole meeting."

"That was about a 30-minute meeting to kind of just kick things off and get to know each other and just kind of talk about stuff that presents a vision for where we were going," Harbaugh told Raanan.

"So that was just the opening line. After that, then the message came."

Harbaugh arrived in New York this offseason after 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, highlighted by a Super Bowl run following the 2012 campaign.

He is now looking to turn things around for a Giants franchise that went 7-27 over the last two seasons.

The Giants will hope what seemed to be a general lack of enthusiasm from the players in the clip of Harbaugh's initial speech does not reflect on the new coach's ability to connect with his young players.

Big seasons from up-and-coming stars like quarterback Jaxson Dart, wide receiver Malik Nabers and wide receiver Cam Skattebo will be key to Harbaugh's hopes of turning the Giants into a competitive team this fall.
