FedEx St. Jude Championship Leaderboard 2026, Top Scorecards, Player Stats on Day 1

Jordan Spieth and four others are tied for the 18-hole lead at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Spieth benefited from a strong back nine to place himself into the lead at five-under.

Michael Thorbjornsen, Kurt Kitayama, Michael Kim and Jake Knapp are tied with Spieth for the top spot on the leaderboard.

Thursday's round wasn't as good to other top golfers, as Rory McIlroy's horrendous finish put him close to the bottom of the leaderboard.

Jordan Spieth Among Group of Five Leaders

Jordan Spieth caught fire on the back nine to work his way into a five-way tie for the lead.

Spieth rolled in birdies on the 11th, 12th, 13th and 15th holes to reach five-under for his round.

Spieth entered Memphis in decent shape to contend for the FedEx Cup in 22nd place in the standings.

Thursday's round is a good sign of progress for Spieth in his quest to win at East Lake in two weeks time.

He turned in a bogey-free, momentum-creating round that, at minimum, could spur him forward to win this week's tournament.

Scottie Scheffler Turns In Solid Opening Round

Scottie Scheffler produced a solid opening round score of 68.

The FedEx Cup points leader rolled in three birdies to go along with his 14 pars and single bogey.

Scheffler shot one-under on each set of nine holes. He didn't do anything spectacular, but he did keep a steady hand and remain in contention.

Scheffler's biggest goal right now is to prepare to be in top form for the Tour Championship. He is most likely going to advance to East Lake with two average performances in two weeks.

Thursday's round was a good start to achieving that longer-term goal.

Of course, he's going to try and compete for the win in Memphis, but if he doesn't, he needs three more solid rounds to carry momentum into the BMW Championship.

Rory McIlroy Sits in Second-to-Last Place

Rory McIlroy resides in second-to-last place among the 69 golfers competing in Memphis.

McIlroy shot a four-over 74 on Thursday. Only Robert MacIntyre's 12-over scoreline was worse among the competitors in the field.

McIlroy had a disastrous finish with bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes and a double bogey on the 18th hole.

He entered the 16th hole at even-par for the round, but the collapse on the final three holes doomed him and likely took him out of contention to win the tournament.

McIlroy sits in 15th place in the FedEx Cup standings, so a poor weekend in Memphis, or even an average finish, won't affect his potential advancement to next week.
