Viral Breakdancer Raygun to Be Subject of New Netflix Documentary Chronicling Her 2024 Olympics

One of the most viral moments from the 2024 Paris Olympics will be spotlighted in a new Netflix documentary.

On Wednesday, Netflix unveiled the trailer for Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly, which will dive into the polarizing performance by Australian breakdancer Rachael "Raygun" Gunn during the debut of breakdancing at the Olympic Games. The documentary will be released on Sept. 1.

"Right before the Olympics, I went to my therapist, panicked," Gunn said in the trailer. "She was like, 'What's the worst that could happen?' 'The whole world could laugh at me!' She's like, 'Do you think that's reasonable?'"

Gunn was one of 17 b-girls from around the world to compete in the first breakdancing event at the Olympics. She failed to progress past the preliminary round after receiving no votes from the judges in any of her three battles. Her performance garnered widespread criticism and subjected her to online bullying.

According to a release, "Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly takes viewers inside the rise, fall, and reinvention of polarizing figure Rachael 'Raygun' Gunn — the academic and competitive breakdancer who ignited a global firestorm following her 2024 Olympic debut. But as her performance at the games went viral overnight, so did an avalanche of memes, misinformation, and conspiracy theories questioning how she ever got there."

Gunn announced her retirement from competitive breakdancing just three months after her Olympic performance, citing the online backlash she received. The upcoming documentary will highlight her experience as well as the dangers of large-scale social media scrutiny.
