Though Mayweather is nursing a 48-0 record, his choice in fighting Berto puzzled some, as he had an opportunity to pick a more challenging opponent.

In fact, ESPN's Skip Bayless would rather spend his money on something other than the fight on pay-per-view:

But Mayweather is standing by his decision and told the Associated Press (via ESPN.com) that this fight is going to be a nasty one.

"With the way he comes, and with the way I'm going to come, if it's not a knockout, there's going to be some knockdowns," he said. "A lot. And there's going to be blood. There's going to be knockdowns, and there's going to be blood. A lot."

The challenger, Berto, who has not been given much of a chance to leave the ring with a win, is nothing short of confident that he'll take Mayweather down. He told Edward Chaykovsky of BoxingScene.com: "Best believe I plan to bring it to Floyd and I'm not concerned about what 48 fighters have been unable to do. Somebody is getting knocked out and it won't be me. You don't want to miss this."

After starting his career 27-0, Berto has lost three of his last six fights. As a result, many in the boxing world are not taking him seriously as an opponent, including ESPN's Dan Rafael:

But scribbling down stats, whether it is Mayweather's superior record or 72-inch reach, does not win matches. The event taking place in the ring is all that matters. And if Berto can somehow find a way to dethrone Mayweather, boxing fans who make the investment of paying for the fight on PPV might witness one of the biggest upsets in the sport's history.

Mayweather has been through these kinds of fights plenty in his career, and he is going to make sure he doesn't put himself in any vulnerable positions. If that means making Berto chase him around the ring for 12 rounds, then he'll do that. But he won't do too much to show Berto a weak spot.

Prediction: Mayweather wins by unanimous decision.
