New NFL Rumors on Dan Quinn's Potential Commanders Hot Seat Ahead of 2026 Season

Riding high at this time last year after leading the Washington Commanders to an NFC Championship Game appearance, head coach Dan Quinn's future with the organization is something he is thinking about.

Per ESPN's John Keim, Commanders officials have given no "ultimatum" to Quinn about needing to have a successful 2026 to save his job, ownership "loves the culture" he has established and that any pressure he might be feeling is "self-induced."

However, Keim did note multiple people in the organization have used the phrase "it's a results business" when talking in general terms about a coach's job security.

Quinn has had a whiplash experience during his first two seasons in Washington. The emergence of Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft, led the Commanders to a surprising 12-5 record with playoff wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions.

It was the first time the Commanders reached the NFC Championship Game for the first time since the 1991 season.

With all the optimism in the world going into 2025, Quinn and the Commanders came crashing down to earth due in part to injuries to key players. They finished 5-12 with Daniels making just seven starts.

Quinn was hired by the Commanders in February 2024 in a pairing with general manager Adam Peters, who was hired a few weeks earlier. Exact details of Quinn's contract remain unknown, so it's unclear how much time he has left on his deal.

One thing that could be helpful to Quinn is Commanders owner Josh Harris' patience with head coaches on other sports franchises he oversees.

Since 2013, the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils have given their head coaches at least three seasons on the job.

There is certainly going to be pressure on Quinn to get the Commanders back on the right track coming off a disappointing season. A healthy Daniels can help get the ship in order, even if it doesn't result in the same type of success they had in 2024 because the NFC is loaded with talent entering the 2026 campaign.
