Alex Cora Reveals If He's Interested in MLB Managerial Return After Red Sox Firing, Phillies Offer

After being fired by the Boston Red Sox in April, Alex Cora is weighing his future.

Cora revealed on the "Dirt from the Dugout" podcast with Karl Ravech (h/t The Athletic's Tim Britton) that he turned down an offer from the Philadelphia Phillies after they fired manager Rob Thompson.

"I think at one point I'm going to get back. When? We don't know," Cora said. "I needed my family… At the end of the day, priorities are priorities. These people are amazing, and they're loving life."

Cora has been enjoying his time off, spending time in Europe and watching World Cup games in Boston while making his hometown of Caguas, Puerto Rico, his home base for the time being.

Cora said that whatever decision he makes will have to be best for his family.

"There are three different opinions in that room right now," he said. "You ask the boys, they want me to manage, and they have their teams. You ask Angelica, she's very polite about it and let's see what the future holds."

It's hard to blame Cora for wanting to take a break for a little bit, but it won't be surprising to see him back in an MLB dugout next spring. The Phillies are still looking for a skipper, while the New York Mets are also on the hunt for their next manager. More jobs will likely open up at the end of the season as well.
