The Rock Talks 'Exploring' Music Career, WWE Icon Drops Video For New Song 'Your Dad'

Having already conquered the worlds of pro wrestling and Hollywood acting, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is now looking to make his mark as a musician.

In an interview with Brian Hiatt of Rolling Stone on Tuesday, The Rock discussed his musical ambitions and his new song "Your Dad," which is part of the Moana: Voices Across The Ocean album.

When asked by Hiatt about his goals in music, The Rock noted that he is "exploring it," saying, "I'm exploring that now. ... As you roll along in life, I've been real fortunate to be part of some really cool projects, and love it. But music has always been such an anchor for me, and very specifically in genres that I love, like country music, traditional country music. And we're exploring that now."

The Rock went on to explain his motives behind making an impact in music, and he mentioned his daughters as a driving force behind it.

"I've reached this point in my life and in my career where, honestly ... when I wake up in the morning, I swing my legs out of bed, and whatever the thing is that I'm doing, I wanna feel like I'm just running towards it," The Rock said. "And the most gratifying things we do are when it's for us, because we have enough pressure to deliver for so many other entities.

"The things we do, we must do them for ourselves, and then we must feel it in here, behind our ribcage. But they're also always connected to some sort of commerce. You make films, especially the big four-quadrant movies, you want them to do well. But this song, for me, is just a song to my daughters. Where there's no pressure of an expectation to deliver something that, 'Well, how are the sales, and how's the box office? And how's the streams?' It's just from me to them."

The Rock's singing chops were on display many times throughout his WWE career, but he is no stranger to mainstream music either.

He was featured on Wyclef Jean's "It Doesn't Matter" in 2000 and Tech N9ne's "Face Off" in 2021.

The Rock's most impactful contribution to music remains the hit song "You're Welcome" from the 2016 Disney film Moana, which he performed as the character Maui.

He recently reprised his role as Maui in the live-action version of Moana this year, and "Your Dad" is a song he co-wrote with 2023 American Idol winner Iam Tongi for Moana's companion album.

It is unclear how far The Rock intends to take his music career, but based on his success as a wrestler and actor, it won't be shocking if he thrives once again.
