Jaxson Dart Applauded by Giants Defense, John Harbaugh After Rare Slide During Practice

Jaxson Dart's teammates on the New York Giants, alongside head coach John Harbaugh, were thrilled to see the young quarterback actually slide during practice on Monday.

"We've been begging him to do that for a while," edge-rusher Brian Burns told ESPN's Jordan Raanan. "So, I'm glad that he's starting to practice it."

The defense loudly cheered for Dart after the slide, Raanan wrote, while Harbaugh literally applauded.

"I did," he said. "I clapped. I applauded. I applauded when he did that. It was great."

Dart, 23, had an impressive rookie season, throwing for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in 14 games while rushing for 487 yards and nine touchdowns. While his aggressive running style gave the Giants a new dynamic offensively, his reluctance to avoid contact led to him being evaluated for possible concussions on five different occasions.

And yet, Monday's slide was Dart's first during training camp over the span of 11 practices.

"As you can see, all the guys, the defensive players, were happy that he slid on that one play," wideout Darnell Mooney told Raanan. "So, he's being smart and, you know, he has his legs as well. So, all-around, great quarterback."
