Patriots, Dolphins Agree to Trade During 2026 NFL Preseason, Full Details Revealed

The New England Patriots have traded with a divisional foe ahead of the 2026 campaign.

The Patriots sent offensive tackle Caedan Wallace to the Miami Dolphins. New England was planning to release Wallace before the deal, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

In addition to Wallace, the Dolphins received New England's 2029 seventh-round pick. The Patriots received Miami's 2028 sixth-round pick.

The Pats drafted Wallace in the third round in 2024 out of Penn State. He started two games and appeared in six during his rookie season, though injuries prevented him from playing a full season.

Wallace moved from tackle to guard ahead of the 2025 season, but played in just four games last year, recording just eight snaps. He was set to begin the 2026 season as a third-string guard on the interior offensive line.

The move to Miami should result in more playing time for Wallace.

On Monday, New England planned to release Wallace to make room for long snapper Niko Lalos, but a trade means the Patriots were able to get a return for him.

Wallace has two years remaining on his four-year, $6.04 million rookie deal. He'll look to have a breakout year in Miami as he tries to prove himself capable of being a starter in the NFL.

The Patriots open up their preseason schedule with a matchup against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, while the Dolphins will get things started against the Washington Commanders on Friday.
