Fantasy Alert, Omarion Hampton's Role Updated by Chargers OC Mike McDaniel Alongside Mitchell, Vidal

New Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel make it very clear on Monday that running backs Kimani Vidal and Keaton Mitchell will play a big part in the team's offense in the 2026 season.

That's very interesting news for fantasy football players hoping to see Omarion Hampton fill more of a bell-cow role this season:

Injuries limited Hampton, 23, to just nine games last season, though he still rushed for 545 yards and four touchdowns and caught 32 passes for 192 yards and another score. Translated to 17 games, that put Hampton on a pace of 1,029 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 60 catches, 362 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

According to FantasyPros, Hampton currently has an average draft position of 16.4 in PPR leagues and 15.7 in half-PPR leagues. Monday's comments from McDaniel might bump him down slightly, though he's still expected to be the team's lead back.

McDaniel has been impressed with him thus far this summer.

"He's a perfect pairing for [running backs coach] Max McCaffrey, because this guy [Hampton] is completely obsessed and focused," he told reporters last week. "His track and the urgency with which we're trying to get him to start the play at the beginning of the play, it has been phenomenal. ... He came back from the spring to training camp, the five weeks he had off, you can tell he was really, really focused on that."

So don't go taking him off your draft boards just yet, fantasy players. But perhaps brace for the possibility of Hampton losing some touches to both Vidal and Mitchell.
