Tim Anderson Retires from MLB, Former White Sox SS Made 2 All-Star Teams in 10 Seasons

The Chicago White Sox announced Monday that longtime shortstop Tim Anderson is retiring after 10 MLB seasons.

Eight of those years came with the White Sox, though he spent the 2024 season with the Miami Marlins and 2025 season with the Los Angeles Angels. He didn't pick up with a team in the 2026 campaign.

The White Sox also announced they would be honoring his career with a pregame ceremony on Sept. 17:

The 33-year-old was a two-time All-Star with the White Sox (2021-22) and a Silver Slugger winner in 2020. In eight years with the organization, he hit .282 with 98 homers, 338 RBI, 528 runs, 117 stolen bases, a .735 OPS and 16.7 WAR.

He helped lead the organization to a pair of playoff appearances in the 2020-21 seasons, ending what had been an 11-year postseason drought. The team hasn't been back to the playoffs since, though that might end this year, as Chicago is 61-56 and currently 3.5 games ahead of the Detroit Tigers for the top spot in the AL Central.

Anderson's last two years outside of Chicago didn't go as well, as he was designated for assignment and ultimately released midseason in both instances. Anderson seemed to struggle with the same injury issues that cropped up later in his Chicago tenure and was never quite the same player as he was in his prime.

Nonetheless, his time with the White Sox will be looked upon fondly in Chicago, and fans will have the opportunity to give him a proper send-off on Sept. 17.
