Trevon Diggs Works Out for Lions Amid 2026 NFL Free Agency After Cowboys, Packers Exits

Veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs reportedly worked out for the Detroit Lions this weekend, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 27-year-old last played for the Green Bay Packers last season, though he only appeared in one game. He was cut by the Dallas Cowboys in December.

Diggs started his career with the Cowboys after being a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft and was a Pro Bowler in both his second and third seasons, notably leading the NFL in interceptions (11) in the 2021 campaign.

There were hints that Diggs' counting stats were a bit more impressive than his overall impact at the position, however, which have been backed by the fact that he had more picks in 2021 than he's had in his other five seasons (nine). Certainly, he's been in the discussion as one of the NFL's more overrated players across recent seasons.

He and the Cowboys also found themselves at odds in recent years. While he signed a five-year, $97 million contract extension in 2023, a torn ACL suffered during a 2023 practice in his left knee and another injury to the same knee in 2024 limited him to 13 total games between the two campaigns.

The Cowboys weren't pleased with how he approached his rehab ahead of the 2025 season, hitting him with a $500,000 salary reduction for not participating in the voluntary offseason program to the desired amount.

He still played eight games for the team last season, though a right knee issue and a concussion suffered in his own home once again limited his availability. Dallas cut him in December before he picked up with the Packers to close the season.

At this point, expecting Diggs to return to the form he displayed earlier in his career is probably wishful thinking. But on a cheap deal to add more depth, he still could be of interest to a team like the Lions. There wouldn't be much risk in such a move.
