Caitlin Clark, Stephanie White React to Fever Star's 8th Technical Foul as WNBA Makes Ruling

The Indiana Fever successfully appealed Caitlin Clark's eighth technical foul of the season and she will not be suspended, according to Kareem Copeland of ESPN.

Clark was assessed her eighth technical foul of the year, which results in an automatic one-game suspension, in the third quarter of Saturday's 90-86 win over the Chicago Sky.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Clark and Fever head coach Stephanie White said the officials told them the tech was assessed because she "intentionally" sought out the ref and made contact with her forearm.

Clark did make contact with the official as her momentum carried her out of bounds after throwing a pass, though she also seemed frustrated that Natasha Cloud wasn't called for a foul during the same play.

An eighth technical foul triggers an automatic one-game suspension and a $1,500 fine. Players are also subject to a one-game suspension for every other technical foul called after the eighth.

As things currently stand, Clark's seven technical fouls are the most by any player in the WNBA this season. There have been five technical fouls rescinded out of the 162 total called across the league.

This was the second consecutive technical foul appealed by the Fever on Clark's behalf. She was previously assessed one during a July 22 win over the Connecticut Sun for a verbal exchange with Saniya Rivers.

"She said she was locking me up, so I said, 'Scoreboard,' and the ref didn't like that," Clark told reporters about her interaction with Rivers.

The league declined to rescind Clark's technical foul from that game.

Clark's technical against the Sky was part of a very physical contest between the two teams. DiJonai Carrington was ejected in the first quarter after being assessed a Flagrant 2 foul for a hard foul on Sophie Cunningham.

Saturday's win snapped the Fever's brief two-game losing skid that came right on the heels of a season-high five-game winning streak. Their 20-12 record has moved them ahead of the Atlanta Dream for fourth place in the standings.

Clark put up a double-double with 26 points and 11 assists in 36 minutes.
