Eagles OC Sean Mannion Talks Tush Push's Future As Part of Team's Offense, 'Extremely Effective'

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion says he wants to "lean into" the tush push during his first season with the franchise.

"It's going to be part of what we do," Mannion told reporters Saturday about the tush push. "It's been an extremely effective play here. We're going to lean into that.

"It's something that this organization has executed at a high level, so along with many other elements of our offense, certainly, it's something that will be a part of it."

Mannion was working as the Green Bay Packers' quarterbacks coach before the Eagles hired him to replace Kevin Patullo in January.

The Eagles fired Patullo after a Wild Card loss capped off a 2025 season during which the offense ranked 18th in passing yards and 23rd in passing yards.

Mannion has since begun installing an offense in the style of Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, per ESPN's Tim McManus.

Jalen Hurts told reporters the Eagles are working on "calibrating" to Mannion's new offense during training camp.

"We've got a lot of new pieces, entirely new approach and M.O., philosophy, to our offense," Hurts said. "Been able to put that together and make it our own."

Those changes apparently won't necessitate a move away from the tush push, a play popularized by the Eagles during their run to Super Bowl LIX but the success rate of which dropped last season.

Overall usage of the tush push has meanwhile decreased from 164 tush pushes in 2023 to 102 last season, according to Front Office Sports' Mark Maske.

Traditional quarterback sneak attempts meanwhile increased from 143 in 2023 to 168 last season, according to Maske.

A vote to ban the tush push failed by two owner votes ahead of the 2025 season and did not come up for a vote ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Mannion could now get the chance to combine the Eagles' signature quarterback sneak play with a Shanahan-style offense.

Hurts recorded eight rushing touchdowns, his lowest single-season total since his rookie 2020 season, during the 2025 campaign. Mannion could hope the new scheme and the continued use of the tush push will help Hurts resume his role as an effective short-yardage scorer in 2026.
